A rota, and the rules it breaks ROSTER
A late finishing at ten and an early starting at seven look reasonable side by side on a spreadsheet. They are nine hours apart, and no grid tells you that.
The period and the rules
These are defaults, not law. What applies to your people comes from your agreement, your regulations and your jurisdiction.
The shift codes
A code with no times is a marker rather than work: rest, leave, a course. It fills the day and counts nothing.
The rota
Type a code into a cell. A cell that turns red is one the rules have something to say about; a cell that turns solid red is a code that is not in the legend.
What the rules say
How evenly it falls
A rota can break no rule at all and still be plainly unfair, and that is the version people argue about.
The rota, written out
How it works
ROSTER checks a shift rota against the working time rules it may break. Two shifts that look fine side by side on a spreadsheet can leave only nine hours between them, and no grid shows that. It checks daily and weekly rest over rolling periods and shows how nights and weekends are spread across the team. The default thresholds are settings, not a statement of the law. It runs in this tab.
Doing this often? OBSCURA Pro saves the rota from here, along with the result of every other tool outside the Workspace, and includes the paid applications. Everything is US$9 a month or US$79 a year, 7 days free.
