Read the text in a photo, a screenshot or a scanned PDF. OPTIC runs the reading engine inside this tab: the text comes out, the picture stays here.

1. Add the picture or the scan

JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP, HEIC or PDF, as many as you like. Drop, choose or paste them.

Drop pictures or PDFs here, choose them, or paste Read in this tab. Printed text, roughly square-on, reads best.

The engine and a language file (about 7 MB) are fetched from this site once; after that it works offline.

How it works

The reading engine runs inside this tab, so the picture is never uploaded, which matters for IDs, letters and anything private. OPTIC reads printed text in many languages and works offline after the first use. Handwriting and poor scans are much less reliable.
