Read the editing history a Word file keeps about itself LINEAGE
Word stamps every paragraph and run with the session that wrote it, and counts the minutes edited and times saved. This reads those marks, colours the text by session, and flags passages pasted from elsewhere.
The Word file
A .docx, .docm, .dotx or .dotm. It is read in this tab and never uploaded.
What the file says about itself
From docProps/app.xml and docProps/core.xml, as the program that saved it wrote them.
Tracked changes and comments still in it
Who wrote what, by session
Choose a session to see only what it wrote; choose it again to see everything.
The report
The HTML report opens in any browser and prints from there; the JSON holds the same facts for a script.
How it works
Word marks every paragraph with an ID for the editing session that wrote it, and counts total editing minutes and saves. LINEAGE reads those marks, colours the text by session, and shows which parts were written together and which were added later. A session is not a person, and a document saved through some other programs keeps almost none of this. It also lists tracked changes and comments. The file stays in your browser.
