How long a room takes to empty, and with which door gone EVACUATE
A hall with three wide doors is fine on paper and a different building with the best one gone. That second sum is the whole reason for doing the first.
The building
The rooms
Widths are the clear width between the door stops, not the frame. Travel is the distance from the furthest point in the room to a door, which is added to the queueing time rather than hidden inside it.
With and without the best door
The working
Widths follow the published step table: 750 mm serves 60 people, 850 serves 110, 1050 serves 220, and 5 mm per person above that. This is arithmetic, shown and checkable, rather than a fire risk assessment.
How it works
EVACUATE works out how long a room or building takes to empty, and checks it again with the largest exit out of use, because a fire can block the best door. Enter the occupants and the exits, and it gives the evacuation time with every exit and with the biggest one discounted. It is a planning aid, not a replacement for a fire risk assessment. The figures stay in this tab.
